York Residents Against Incineration

North Yorkshire acted decisively today by voting down a proposal by Cllr John Savage (Conservative Councillor for Ainsty) to hold a public meeting on the incinerator proposal.

Cllr John Savage, recognising the strong feelings on the issue, felt that the small series of meetings presenting the proposal would not give the proposals sufficient scrutiny. But his fellow Conservative Councillors did not agree with him, and voted against the motion, proposed by Liberal councillor John Clark.

The six-year process of creating this waste strategy has been one of secrecy and unaccountability, so this latest news should come as no surprise. Our article ‘The Process’ explains more on this.
