Another one to add to the long list of incinerators gorn wrong.

Energos’s plant on the Isle of Wight is a gasifier burning municipal waste from the island. It was a complicated retrofit of a gasifier onto an existing waste recovery plant, according to the article in the Island Pulse.

The facility was closed in May after dioxin emissions were recorded eight times over the legal maximum. It was expected to re-open after a fortnight, but the Environment Agency confirmed in August that it is still closed. Tests carried out in June also showed that it was still breaching limits.

We are continually reassured that ‘modern’ incinerators meeting emission standards do not pose a hazard to health, and this may be true. But all these reassurances are worth nothing when their record is so poor.
