Friends of the Earth hit out at major waste companies for claiming that incineration produces “green” and “renewable” energy, after new research shows that a standard British ‘Energy from Waste’ incinerator produces more carbon dioxide from fossil fuels (such as plastics in rubbish) than a gas-fired power station.
